Canasvieiras, turning this seaside neighbourhood in the island city
Florianópolis from a mere fishing village into a true tourist location. Canasvieiras, which is located on the
north of the Island of Santa Catarina has around 4,000 permanent residents in
the low season and over 20,000 in the high season (December to March). Set
between the beaches of Jurerê and Cachoeira do Bom Jesus, Canasvieiras is 27 km
north of Florianópolis city centre.
This beach-neighbourhood offers all sorts of leisure
options including banana-boat and disco-boat, guided diving, schooner trips to
nearby island such as the one where the Santa Cruz de Anhatomirim Fortress is
located, now a marine research centre, and the famous Ilha do Francês believed
to have been inhabited by a general from Napoleon's army seeking shelter after
the defeat at Waterloo in 1815.
All sorts of shops, supermarkets, banks,
post office, travel agencies, police station, mini-shopping centres, car rental
companies and medical clinics, may be found in Canasvieiras. Everything is open
till very late so shopping is not a problem.
As far as eating out is concerned, Canasvieiras
features all sorts of restaurants including barbecue and pizza parlours, pasta,
typical local food and seafood restaurants, snack bars, ice-cream buffets and a
McDonald's kiosk.
Accommodation is varied with luxury hotels,
