Agriculture boosts Brazilian economy

Brazil's economy is being boosted by continuing growth in its agricultural sector, new figures have revealed.

According to government statistics, the industry was responsible for the generation of more than 92,000 jobs during June 2008, reports Brazzil Mag.

This means that agriculture is creating more jobs than any other sector of the economy, a development which has been attributed to several factors.

Labour minister Carlos Lupi said the beginning of the harvesting period has played a part, along with the fact that Brazil is now exporting more goods overseas.

He commented: "Brazil is exporting a lot, breaking all sorts of records, and that leads businessmen to invest more and hire more workers."

Mr Lupi added that the officials in the sector are also investing in more state of the art technology, which has made production processes more efficient.

This comes after Forbes stated that the Brazilian economy is still expanding at a steady rate, despite the downturn in the other parts of the world.
