Brazil attracts foreign visitors
A growing number of foreign leisure travellers are choosing to visit Brazil, new figures have revealed.
Official data cited by Brazzil Mag showed that more than 3.2 million people entered the South American nation between January and June 2008.
This is 2.67 per cent up on the amount recorded during the same period of the previous year.
Jeanine Pires, president of tourism institute Embratur, described the increase as a positive development for the sector.
She commented: "It shows constant recovery in the number of arrivals on international flights, which is very good."
The figures include passengers who arrived on both regular flights and chartered aircraft.
If regular flights are considered in isolation, the increase in passenger numbers is more than 5.6 per cent up on the first six months of last year.
This comes after Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels predicted that the number of foreign visitors in Brazil will go up significantly within the next few years.
The organisation stated that the growth in the sector is being actively encouraged by the government, as it is investing in improvements to the country's airports and road network.
