Hi
Brazil's president 'has helped the country prosper'
Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has helped the country to manage its economic problems in a positive way.
This is according to US president Barack Obama, speaking at an official press conference in Washington, who said that Brazil and certain other Latin American countries are a good example of what America would like to work with in the future.
He praised Mr Lula da Silva in particular as being "a very practical person" who has brought in positive market reforms.
"It's an example for all of us that good fiscal policy, good economic policy, ultimately allows for prosperity through good times and bad times," Mr Obama concluded.
Mr Lula da Silva has been in office for two consecutive terms and, in a recent poll by Sensus, more than half of the members of the public surveyed thought that Brazil and its government are managing the economic downturn in a positive way.
