Commercial investment in Brazil 'to rise above US'
Commercial investment in Brazil is predicted to outstrip the amount of money attracted by the US, according to new research.
The World Investment Prospects Survey 2010-2012, conducted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, showed transnational companies (TNCs) saw the Latin American country as one of the top three destinations for their cash.
Meanwhile, developed countries had fallen in the body's listings, with the US being pushed to fourth position by Brazil.
Overall, optimism among TNCs regarding foreign direct investment was found to be growing, with 36 per cent of respondents lacking confidence over the health of the global economic recovery compared with 47 per cent last year.
Echoing the views of the firms, investment promotion agencies in developing nations such as Brazil said they expected more foreign money to be ploughed into their countries in the near future.
Indeed, a study by Baring Asset Management recently found just over one in ten (4.7 million) British adults were considering investment in Brazil.
