Government planning investment in Brazil to boost tourism

The Brazilian government is hoping to boost tourism in the Latin American country by working on its infrastructure.

An investment in Brazil will be made to improve airports and expand regional air grids as part of the proposals.

Luiz Barretto, the country's tourism minister, said the ministry of defence was discussing plans regarding the North East of the country, reports Brazzil Mag.

He said a reduction in value added stake tax for regional aviation could be on the cards to enable areas to improve their facilities.

"This should assist the creation of regional aviation capable of moving the main centres. Ceara has been doing its homework, with the expansion of regional airports," he commented.

The investment in Brazil's infrastructure comes as the country attempts to make itself a more attractive destination for tourists.

With the football World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016 both to be held in the country, increased numbers of tourists are expected to visit Brazil over the next few years.

Mr Barretto said the country was particularly trying to attract the one million tourists that visit Brazil from Argentina each year.

He said: "We hope they will also visit the North East, where they may find diversity that is non-existent in the South, which is currently the preferred route."

The government is also seeking to improve the network of hotels in Brazil.

This comes after making an investment in the North East of the country was recently tipped by Brazil's ministry of tourism.

Glauco Chris Fuzinatto, director of UK and Ireland for the Brazilian Tourist Office, said local people were also buying more property.

"The whole of the North East of Brazil is really up and coming for properties of second homes or holiday homes," he commented.

Mr Fuzinatto said people looking to make an investment in Brazil should be quick as property prices in the country are rising.

The nation is also a good destination for tourists as it offers variation, he said.

He explained that an advantage of visiting Brazil is that each state is diverse enough from the others to be worth visiting, with each one having its own foods, music and culture.

The number of tourists visiting Brazil is expected to hit close to ten million by the time of the World Cup, a report by companiesandmarkets.com stated.

It predicted the number of tourists visiting the country would rise to 9.2 million in 2014, compared to 4.7 million in 2001.
