Vestas announces investment in Fortaleza
Wind power firm Vestas has announced plans for investment in Fortaleza, in the North East of Brazil, where assembly, training, maintenance and supply chain facilities will be established.
The company said nacelle production will begin at the plant in the fourth quarter of 2011, with an annual capacity of around 800 MW.
It acquired 10,000 square metres of Brazilian property in Fortaleza, which is located in Caera State, including buildings and land.
The facility will be the first of its kind developed by the company in the Latin American country.
President of Vestas nacelles Soren Lomholt Husted said the local authorities have been very supportive of the investment.
"We are confident that we have a good infrastructure and qualified workforce for our first nacelle assembly facility in Brazil," he commented.
The country's wind power industry appears to be attracting plenty of attention, with a Brasil Economico interview with the president of renewable energy plant developer Bioenergy Sergio Marques recently revealing plans to build facilities in the country, according to the Wall Street Journal.
