An investment in Bahia from an international energy company will see it assemble wind farms in the North East state.
Alstom Power revealed on Monday (December 21st 2009) that it had signed an initial agreement on the deal with the state government, which could see the wind farms begin operation in early 2011.
The company estimated that the investment in Bahia would be in the region of 50 million reais (£17.6 million).
Brazilian secretary of industry, commerce and mining James Correia said that the construction of the wind turbines is "very significant" for the state.
"We will have the opportunity to attract investment and technology transfer in the wind industry and add new tax revenue and more jobs for Bahia," he added.
According to Regulacion Eolica con Vehiculos Electricos, the North East states of Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sol and Ceara currently account for more than 60 per cent of Brazil's wind power.
