Property in Brazil will be scarce around the time of the Olympics so tourists should get their accommodation sorted now, an expert has said.
Laura Rendell-Dunn, spokesperson for travel company Journey Latin America, explained that holidaymakers will flock to the Latin American country, attracted by the Games, the sightseeing and the generous exchange rate of the euro to the Brazilian real.
"Anyone who wants to visit the Games and also do some holidaying around Brazil, they should book sooner rather than later. Availability will be quite difficult," she said.
Rio de Janeiro was recently announced as the winner of the 2016 Olympic Games bid, beating off competition from Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo.
Figures from the Brazilian Tourist Board showed that in 2008, 181,000 British tourists visited the country, an increase of 2.3 per cent on the previous year.
January, February and March are traditionally the most popular times for tourists to visit, with holidaymakers attracted by the Brazilian summer and famous festivals which are held during those times.
