Anyone on the lookout for a luxury holiday destination should give Brazil a try.

The Brazilian Tourism Institute Embratur, along with the Brazilian Luxury Travel Association, are currently promoting the Latin American country to people who may have overlooked it as a holiday destination.

However, the organisations point out that it has as much, if not more, to offer than more well-trodden locations around the globe.

"Brazil, with its cultural, natural, patrimonial, ethnical and historical diversity, can provide foreign tourists with this exclusive, differentiated experience," enthused Embrateur spokesperson Karem Basulto, according to Brazzil magazine.

A survey carried out recently by ITLM revealed that 25 million people took luxury holidays last year.

Meanwhile, 5.2 million people headed to Brazil in 2008, research from the Centro de Excelencia em Tourismo showed, amounting to $5.78 billion (£3.53 million) in revenues for the country.

North eastern resorts such as Salvador and Fortaleza could be ideal for a luxury holiday.
