Authorities in Brazil have confirmed that they plan to step up the amount of trade with China over the next few years.

The Brazil Trade and Investment Promotion Agency stated that trade with the Asian nation will be doubled between now and 2013.

Alessandro Teixeira, president of the organisation, added that annual trade volume would increase by at least ten per cent within the next two years.

Speaking to Xinhua, he stated that the agreement would have mutual benefits for both nations, as various sectors would enjoy greater amounts of foreign direct investment.

Mr Teixeira commented: "It is also a crucial moment for us to learn from China and open more business opportunities."

The announcement comes in the middle of this year's Olympic Games, which are being held in the city of Beijing.

Brazil is among the nations currently bidding to host the sporting spectacle in 2016.
