Brazilian ethanol production could more than double in 10 years

Those considering commercial investment in Brazil may be interested to know one official has said ethanol production in the country could more than double over the next decade.
Mines and energy minister Marcio Zimmerman stated on Monday (September 20th) that output was set to increase, according to Xinhua.
"Brazil produces 26 litres today and will reach 64 billion litres in 2019," the news provider quoted him as saying.
"With that, we will even have a surplus to export," the politician added.
Brazil is currently one of the biggest producers of ethanol fuel in the world and Mr Zimmerman noted it is responsible for 18 per cent of the nation's power.
Investment in the industry is rising, which he explained was to help the country keep up with others that are ploughing money into the field.
As much as $12 billion (£7.66 billion) was recently dedicated to ethanol production in Brazil by Royal Dutch Shell and the country's largest manufacturer in the industry Cosan in a joint venture.
