Individuals and businesses looking to make an investment in Brazil in the next 12 months are likely to welcome its planning minister's forecasts of economic growth in 2010.
Speaking to Brazilian state TV channel EBC, Paulo Bernardo predicted that the country's GDP will return to pre-recession levels during the next year.
"I have no difficulty in believing it may grow 5.8 per cent or even a bit more in 2010," he was quoted by Dow Jones reporters as saying.
If his estimates prove to be accurate, it will be in line with economic growth seen in the Latin American country before the global economic downturn struck. Its GDP expanded by 5.7 per cent in 2007 and 5.1 per cent in 2008.
His comments come after finance minister Guido Mantega claimed that investment in Brazil will rise 15 per cent on 2009 levels next year, according to a report in the Latin American Herald Tribune.
