Water supplier Corsan is to invest in Brazil to the tune of 260 million reais (£103 million) to improve conditions in Rio Grande do Sul.

This is according to a spokesperson from the company who told BN Americas of the utility's plans for the city of Erechim.

As much as 80 million reais will be spent improving sewerage, 32.4 million reais on creating a better water supply and 37 million reais on a run-off system, the official stated.

Some of the works that will be funded by the money include constructing a 16km pipeline between Ligeirinho and Cravo river basins as well as creating new collector channels, outfalls and interceptors.

The official explained that Corsan has a 25-year contract to provide sanitation and water services to the city and third parties have already started bidding to deliver some of the plans.

It is possible some of the firms looking for work as part of the investment could be British, as Building.co.uk recently noted that Brazil's growing economy, regeneration efforts and oil industry are attracting UK construction businesses to the country, with many looking to get involved in the government's Minha Casa, Minha Vida (My House, My Life) affordable housing project.
