Commercial investment in Brazil may be set to increase, as secretary of state for business Dr Vince Cable recently travelled to the country with a delegation of UK industry leaders.
The politician returned home from a four-day long visit to the nation on Friday, during which he and his companions stopped in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
As the 2016 Olympic Games will be held in Brazil and the 2012 competition will be hosted by London, Dr Cable was also looking to share knowledge and expertise to help both events run successfully.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, the MP described how being accompanied by the delegation was a departure from an older way of communicating with other countries, "with businesses sitting in the background".
"Now the chief executive will lead the process," he told the newspaper.
Dr Cable described the Brazilians he had met as being "very business-like, highly competent people" and urged UK industry to form long-term relationships with the nation rather than adopt a "fly-by-night" approach.
Brazil has been selected as one of UK Trade & Investment's High Growth Markets, described by the body as "simply too big a market to ignore".
