Investment in Brazil might increase on news that its economy is growing, as the nation's finance minister Guido Mantega said yesterday (June 17th) that it could expand between six and 6.5 per cent this year.
The country's government recently reported that the investment rate increased to 18 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2010, predicting it would rise to 19 per cent of GDP before 2011, as the leaders revised their forecast for economic growth up to 6.5 per cent from 5.5 per cent, by the end of the annum.
Mr Mantega also reported that a slowdown in expansion in the first quarter indicated that inflation may be brought under control, projecting that the annual IPCA consumer price index will drop back to its target around 4.5 per cent compared with 5.22 per cent in May.
"Now we are heading towards growth levels that are more balanced and sustainable until the end of the year," he commented at a presentation in Brasilia.
