Investment in Brazil's renewable power sector has seen energy companies earn around 19 billion reais (£6.68 billion) after the country's first wind tender.
Firms competed on cost at the auction to build new wind facilities throughout the Latin American country, with the prices agreed coming in much lower than originally expected.
Consequently, this means that wind could be used as a viable alternative to traditional power generation sources such as fossil fuels.
Brazil succeeded in contracting 1.8 GW of power at the auction, with the majority of new sites set to be built in the North East of the country.
Investment in Rio Grande do Norte saw the state sell 657 MW of power, according to energy news provider Recharge.
The North East region "has the country's best potential" for wind power generation, the article explained.
According to Regulacion Eolica con Vehiculos Electricos, Rio Grande do Norte controls much of the energy generated through this method, with 105 wind parks producing 3.6 GW.
