Florianopolis is the site of the first South American branch of a famous French administration school.
The Ecole National D'Administration (ENA), which has taught world leaders including former German chancellor Helmut Kohl and current director of the World Trade Organisation Pascal Lamy, recently opened its doors in the state of Santa Catarina.
Governor of the south Brazilian state Luiz Henrique da Silva said at the opening ceremony that 40 local government employees were already set to attend the school to take part in the Public Administration High Studies course.
Florianopolis has been the site of a wealth of investment in recent times, with a BBC report describing the city as a technological powerhouse thanks to investment in Brazil's scientific industries.
This has seen the city become the location of a $1 billion (£602 million) shipyard to service the country's thriving offshore oil drilling sector.
Jose Eduardo A Fiates, the executive director of Sapiens Parque, a $1.3 billion (£819 million) science park investment in Florianopolis, said that Brazil is benefitting from ten times more investment in science, technology and innovation than the rest of South America.
