American company General Electric (GE) has made a commercial investment in Brazil to support the country's growing energy industry.
Ploughing $10 million (£6.3 million) into the nation, the firm is to establish the GE Brazil Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Service Center, which will be located in the city of Petropolis in Rio de Janeiro state.
The facility will provide component repairs and assembly assistance for local power businesses as well as the oil and gas sector.
Darryl Wilson, vice-president for aeroderivative gas turbines at GE Power & Water, believes the investment will improve the productivity of Brazil's energy industry.
"Faster service time to market means less down time for our customers, resulting in more revenue from their running machines," he said.
GE has had a presence in Brazil for over 90 years and the company hopes the investment will provide it with the opportunity for future growth in other markets.
The firm also announced it had won a contract from state-owned energy business Petrobras to convert an aeroderivative gas turbine to burn ethanol.
