Hotels for sale in Brazil present a "fabulous" opportunity for investors, it has been claimed.
President of Tourism Economics Adam Sacks spoke about the benefits of speculating in Latin America's leisure sector at a recent conference.
Reporting on the event, HotelNewsNow.com quoted the expert as saying: "There's no doubt Brazil is a fabulous opportunity and holds significant long-term growth."
Mr Sacks noted that the nation is among the most attractive to international tourists to Latin America but most of the holidaymakers in the country are actually domestic visitors, saying: "The key point is that the regional traveler matters."
People considering buying Brazilian property to cash in on those taking a break in the nation are likely to look for new developments, global chief executive officer at Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels Arthur de Haast was cited by the news provider as saying.
He stated that Latin America's largest economy has overtaken Mexico as the most popular investment opportunity in the region, noting that Hotels Royal and EHL hotels are leading the way.
Mr Haast advised investors to find local partners to work with when they speculate in new developments and there may be plenty of projects for those hoping to back the sector.
The expert noted that 63 per cent of hotels and 66 per cent of rooms planned for construction in Latin America are to be built in Brazil.
Mr Sacks called the tourism industry's performance last year as "strong" but stated that the coming months could be even better.
"It is Latin America that's going to be sustaining growth compared to the rest of the Americas," he said. "2011 will exceed 2010 - the only region that will do that."
Director of marketing and analysis for STR Global Konstanze Auernheimer also noted that the area was doing well in relation to other global tourism spots.
"In 2010 we have seen demand return," the information source quoted him as saying. "It's one region that didn't suffer as much as other regions [in the downturn]."
Tourism in Brazil may be further encouraged by a new image of the country being portrayed in the media.
People investing in property in Rio de Janeiro may be particularly pleased about a new approach to the city by the film industry in the release of less downbeat movies.
Brazilian director of new animated picture Rio Carlos Saldanha aims to "open people's eyes" to the beauty of the area, which may not have been taken in by fans of grittier flicks about the region like City of God.
He was quoted by film writer Rebecca Keegan in the Los Angeles Times saying he feels the movie "brings a message of hope" about the area.
