Investment in Brazil is required to ensure the country can supply enough water to its people and effectively manage its waste, according to the nation's national water agency ANA.
The body's calls for money were reported on by the Wall Street Journal, which noted that the organisation believes R$70 billion (£25.79 billion) will be needed by 2015.
Investment in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and other parts of south-east Brazil is particularly important to ensure water continues to be supplied to the country's most populated region, the news provider noted.
The information source said ANA was looking for as much as $47.8 billion to fund the nation's sewage system and R$22 billion to manage water supplies by 2015.
North-east Brazil, which is the country's driest region, is also one of the places most in need of investment.
ANA believes R$9.1 billion needs to be spent on urban parts of this area, with another R$6.4 billion going toward semi-arid sections, the Wall Street Journal reported.
President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff recently told financial newspaper Valor that investment is needed in the country's airports.
