More people may be considering investment in Brazil on news that industrial production in the country grew more in 2010 than it has in any year since 1986.
Figures from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics showed manufacturing levels expanded by 10.5 per cent last year, compared with a fall of 7.4 per cent in 2009.
Between March 2009 and May 2010, industrial production experienced growth of 22 per cent, led by consumer and capital goods.
Although the expansion of manufacturing levels slowed down in the second half of last year, more sectors grew than contracted in the final quarter.
Production increased among items such as machines and equipment (including those designed for office use), non-metallic minerals and medical-hospital instrumentation in the last three months of 2010.
Separate statistics from the bureau showed industrial employment remained stable in November of last year, with the payroll rising 7.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2009.
