Investment in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games will improve the country's capacity for tourism, according to Journey Latin America.
According to research by STR Global, Brazil saw a marked increase in tourism in the first two months of this year compared with last year. The Post Office has also reported an increase of 350 per cent in sales of the local currency - the Brazilian real.
Demand on the country from tourism is growing and with the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games coming up, even more people can be expected to flood through the borders.
Laura Rendell-Dunn, marketing manager at Journey Latin America, a specialist travel agency, said that the investment in Brazil from the sporting events will "improve travel infrastructure because it will be geared up to receiving
many more tourists and if any country in South America can handle that, then certainly Brazil can".
The industry is already moving to accommodate demand and, according to Ms Rendell-Dunn, the number of airlines now operating flights to Brazil will make the cost of travelling there more competitive.
