Investment in Brazil will be 15 per cent higher in 2010 than it has been this year, according to the country's finance minister.
Guido Mantega made the prediction at a meeting of the Council for Economic and Social Development, adding that this would help its economy to "guarantee a cycle of future growth", the Latin American Herald Tribune reported.
Public work which needs to be carried out to ensure it is ready to host the football World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016 will alone guarantee a five per cent increase in investment in Brazil, he said.
Sustainable growth in investment will also be helped by projects to build affordable property in Brazil and the construction of a high-speed rail link between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Mr Mantega explained.
His remarks come after analysts at the Centre for Economics and Business Research estimated that Brazil's economy will surpass the UK's in future years, perhaps even as soon as 2012.
