Overseas property investors have been advised to consider the green credentials of their foreign residence.
According to NuBricks.com, making a home more environmentally-friendly could potentially make it more attractive to prospective buyers.
Chintan Mahida, property expert at the website, stated that developers in many emerging markets such as Brazil are increasingly taking this issue into account when building new houses.
This, she said, is putting them ahead of more established investment hotspots such as Spain and Italy.
Ms Mahida commented: "Having a green overseas property should set you apart from other sellers especially as rising fuel costs are resulting in a larger carbon footprint."
Therefore, owning a residence with eco-friendly features could ultimately prove to be cheaper to maintain.
This comes after Brazzil Mag reported that the Brazilian government is intending to promote eco-tourism at various sites of natural beauty.
Environment minister Carlos Minc said that more than £15 million is to be put into improving the green credentials of six federal preservation units.
