In news that may interest potential investors in Brazil, it has been reported that the country's president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva may run for a third term in office.
He has already been elected for two straight terms and, although he is said to be training chief of staff Dilma Rousseff to take his position as Workers' Party candidate for 2010, TVNZ quotes Reuters as saying that he may plan a comeback.
Mr Lula da Silva has been credited with helping Brazil to avoid the worst of the recession - in a recent poll by Sensus, he received an 81.5 per cent approval rating.
Meanwhile, over 50 per cent of those polled said they thought that Brazil and its government are managing the economic downturn well and 55.9 per cent thought that Brazil will come out of the financial problems stronger than before.
"A leader like Lula appears very rarely in the history of a people," said Aloizio Mercadante, leader of the Workers' Party in the Senate.
US president Barack Obama recently described Mr Lula da Silva as "the most popular politician in the world".
