A televised debate between candidates for the Brazilian presidency has finished, with one of the front runners being a politician who Reuters recently reported pledged to continue the current leader's policies, which could include the Minha Casa, Minha Vida affordable housing scheme.
Dilma Rousseff and Marina Silva have both said they would extend the macroeconomic programmes that have been successful under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
According to Dow Jones Newswires, Green Party candidate Ms Silva stated she would add to the Minha Casa, Minha Vida programme.
With two months to go before October's election, four runners met for the first televised debate.
Ms Rousseff, who has emerged as the front-runner - ten percentage points ahead of Mr Serra - said of the current government's policies: "We have lifted 24 million people out of poverty and brought 31 million people into the middle class. In the middle of the crisis in 2009, we created 1.7 million jobs."
Backed by President Lula, she was once the chief of staff for the current rulers but has never run for office before now.
