Those who own rental property in Brazil could find their accommodation becoming even more popular after the country opened a new tourist route in the north east of the country.
Telling the history of sugar manufacturing, Civilisation of Sugar incorporates attractions in Paraiba, Pernambuco and Alagoas and aims to show people that there is more to the north eastern resorts than beautiful beaches, Brazzil magazine reports.
For example, in Paraiba, tourists can head to active mills to see how cachaca (an alcoholic drink made from sugarcane) is made, while in Pernambuco, they can investigate replica slave houses.
Izabel Francisca, manager of the tourist project, said: "Tourists can have enriching experiences, visit the interior of the states, at the same time getting to know the history of each one of them."
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, Brazil's tourism industry rose to become the 13th largest in the world during 2008 in terms of economic activity generated.
