Officials in Brazil have revealed an ambitious plan to boost tourism numbers in the country.
According to brazzilmag.com, the country's tourism institute, Embratur, said that it was planning on promoting more than 100 campaigns in nations across the globe over the next year in a bid to raise the profile of the South American nation.
Embratur president Jeanine Pires reportedly told a meeting of tourism officials in the city of Sao Paulo that the campaigns would focus on attracting tourists through advertising and trade fairs.
"Our objective, as usual, is to expand the flow of foreigners into Brazil and increase the entry of funds in our country by means of international tourism," brazzilmag.com quotes Ms Pires as having said.
Recently, the tourism authority of Bahia reported that a successful marketing campaign meant that over 20,000 visitors flooded to the region for the festival of Sao Joao da Bahia.
Tourism secretary Leonelli Sunday said at the time that the numbers proved how profitable if could be to market cultural events as tourist attractions.
