There will be billions of dollars of investment in Brazil as a result of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, an expert has said.
Glauco Chris Fuzinatto, director at the Brazilian Tourist Office for UK and Ireland, said: "There will be a huge investment by the Brazilian government to ensure that not just the Olympic Games but also the World Cup ... are organised and run properly."
With golf recently being named an Olympic sport, Mr Fuzinatto explained that there has already been significant government investment in the sport.
Visitors to the Latin American country often combine sightseeing holidays with playing golf, he added.
Figures released by the Brazilian Tourist Board show that 181,000 British holidaymakers visited the country in 2008, an increase of more than 2.3 per cent on the previous year.
Mr Fuzinatto said that the popularity of golf in the country is set to increase, with a tournament held at Salvador in Bahia in November last year attracting 80 young Brazilian golfers.
