The state of Oregon is to invest in Brazilian property to the tune of $100 million (£60 million), it has been reported.
Statesmanjournal.com explained that the Oregon Investment had agreed to pour the money into the Brazil Real Estate Opportunities Fund II.
The cash will be coming from the Oregon Public Employee Retirement Fund and the decision was made following discussions with an independent consultant.
Affordable housing projects, which could include properties that are part of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida (My House, My Life) programme, are one of the areas in which the state is investing.
Money is also going toward office and retail developments and it will pay for the construction and acquisition of real estate in Brazil.
Harry Demorest, chairman of the Oregon Investment Council, seemed confident about the decision.
"Every Oregonian benefits from the strong performance of the state’s public investments and it is incumbent on us to find the best opportunities, no matter where they are," he said.
One of the reasons Brazilian property may be good place for the state to invest it's funds is because it is experiencing strong economic growth and rising employment rates - two factors international director at LaSalle Investment Robin Goodchild recently said were important to real estate specualtors in an article for Asset.
