Development of new property in Brazil will not come at the expense of the country's environment, an expert has said.
Laercio Souza, coordinator of inward investment at the Ministry of Tourism, said that the Latin American country's strict environmental laws would ensure that Brazil will not see the same level of development as the south coast of Spain.
He explained that the country's nature is one of the key reasons that overseas investors look to buy property in Brazil.
"We love our nature and we wouldn't want to spoil it
If we spoil the nature, why should we go there?" he said.
Mr Souza added that the country has much to offer to sightseeing tourists beyond its famous coastlines.
It has the biggest complex of caves in the world, he said, as well as high mountains, long stretches of underground rivers and hundreds of waterfalls.
Figures from the Brazilian Tourist Board, published on Travel Weekly, showed that more than 181,000 British holidaymakers visited the country in 2008.
