Property in Rio may offer benefits to holidaymakers and those hoping to invest in Brazil, as one commentator has described how an apartment in the city provided "real estate heaven" for her children.
Writing about her travels through the country in an article for South African news provider the Times Live, Vanessa Perumal looked back at her family's stay in Rio at the end of last year.
The commentator, her husband Dees and her 13 and ten-year-old children Taynita and Jayaveer stayed near Ipanema beach, where she explained her kids loved the space, decor and view their accommodation offered.
But it was not only the penthouse apartment that impressed them, as the family visited some of the city's attractions.
"Rio is a cacophony of varying colours, sizes and shapes blending in a city that never sleeps," Ms Perumal said.
"I am still amazed how humanity is celebrated and how comfortable and unpretentious Rio is," she added.
The writer said she went shopping in Copacabana and visited the city's famous monument Christ the Redeemer.
Property in Rio de Janeiro has nearly doubled in price over the last three years, according to figures from the Pipe Economic research institute reported by Reuters.
