A new investment in Bahia has been announced by an international hospitality chain.
The Rezidor Hotel Group revealed that it has chosen the North East Brazilian state as its first project away from its traditional market.
"I'm proud to enter a new country," said the company's president and chief executive officer Kurt Ritter. "Brazil is the 59th nation where Rezidor is present and the first country outside our core region [of] Europe, Middle East and Africa."
The investment in Bahia will be located 40 km from state capital Salvador. It will feature 118 rooms including 48 suites, as well as 32 villas offering sea views.
It is expected that the resort, called the Hotel Missoni Ilha de Cajaiba, will open its doors to holidaymakers in early 2012.
This development follows a report from Bloomberg which revealed that two other international hospitality firms - Jumeirah and Four Seasons - were also planning to open hotels in the Latin American country.
