Investors looking to buy property in Rio de Janeiro could be encouraged by Lonely Planet's advice that the city is one of the best places to celebrate New Year's Eve.
The travel guidebook stated that the former capital city of Brazil is one of the top ten places in the world to ring in 2010, along with the likes of New York, Sydney, London and Cape Town.
Tom Hall, a travel editor for the company, explained that Rio's popularity stemmed from the fact that it encourages tourists to feel like they are part of the party.
He said some cities can leave holidaymakers feeling like they are on the outside looking in when it comes to festivities.
"But in Rio because everything is out in the open and on the street it would be a very inclusive place," he remarked.
Anyone thinking of making the trip to Rio for December 31st can look forward to receiving "a warm welcome and lots of crowds out on the street", he added.
