Sugar cane processor Da Mata SA - Acucar e Alcool is to invest in Brazil and build a second ethanol plant.
The Santa Marina plant will be located in Sao Paulo and is being constructed at a time when demand is exceeding supply in the country, Bloomberg reports.
Jorge Hatem, superintendent of the firm's existing Usina da Mata mill, told the news provider that he expects large companies to consider investment in Brazil again at the beginning of next year.
"Today, there aren't enough mills online to provide what's required by the domestic market," he continued.
The expert said that due to this increase in demand for renewable fuel, other enterprises are likely to follow in the footsteps of Da Mata and invest in production capacity.
Mr Hatem explained that the new development will be capable of producing 100 million litres of ethanol a year.
This comes after it was announced earlier this month that energy company Petrobras is to increase its ethanol production in Brazil.
