Many holidaymakers from the UK are travelling to Brazil in the belief that it enhances their public image.
This is one of the findings of a study by private bank Cater Allen, which found that 46 per cent of tourists believe their choice of holiday destination reflects on them personally.
As a result, many people are choosing to visit places which are favoured by celebrities, mainly long-haul destinations.
Brazil was identified as one of the main hotspots for image-conscious Britons, many of whom are spending more than £25,000 on their trips abroad.
Figures also showed that holidays have become very important to people from the UK, hence the willingness to spend large sums on heading overseas.
Research indicated that taking a foreign break is as much of a priority as buying a home and saving up for the future.
According to Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels, the number of foreign visitors in Brazil is likely to grow significantly within the next few years.
