Individuals and businesses may be encouraged to make an investment in Rio de Janeiro's automotive sector after a major manufacturer said it plans to increase production in the state.
German conglomerate MAN Latin America will increase its current output from 50,000 to 72,000 trucks per year in the region, creating 700 new jobs in the process at its Resende production line, the firm's president Antonio Roberto Cortes revealed.
Brazil's economy has picked up to such an extent that truck sales in the country will rebound to pre-recession levels this year, he told the Financial Times.
He added that Brazil, India and China "will have recovered much earlier than the rest of the world" from the effects of the global economic downturn.
This development follows on from PSA Peugeot Citroen's recent announcement that it will also increase output at its plant in Rio de Janeiro.
It will increase its annual capacity by 32 per cent from 2009 levels, its president of Brazilian operations Vincent Rambaud told the Wall Street Journal.
