It is hard not to ignore Brasil nowadays, always in the media spotlight, but when I was researching an investment in Brasil early in 2005 there were not many people you could call upon. Property Bond was one of the first international players in Brasil. I found them on the internet, their website was very professional, and with their London office I gained a key sense of confidence.

I'd never been to Brasil when I bought my off-plan property. Many of my friends had spent much time in Brasil, but in the well known tourist areas and not in the North East where I was investing. I had many personal discussions and email exchanges with Property Bond before settling on a property in Joao Pessoa. Investing in a remote location can be a scary experience, we've all heard the disaster stories of Spain. Property Bond remove a lot of those problems by doing an extensive due diligence of the property developer and project. I bought a penthouse in a development they had approved, that was beach side in Joao Pessoa, and importantly in an expensive area representing good value for money for an overseas investor with a stronger currency. Location is always important, I bought into an existing city with existing infrastructure rather than a new project in the middle of nowhere.

I could not be happier with my purchase. Not only is Joao Pessoa one of the most beautiful cities you will find anywhere, but it is a fantastic place to while away the warm tropical days in Brasil. I've been to more than 35 countries now, and not much compares to Brasil. I am very fortunate to have had the confidence to get into the growing market in Brasil, it took a lot of courage, I received a lot of criticism from friends and family for making what they perceived a too risky investment given the history of problems in South America. Those days are behind us however, my property has conservatively more than doubled. The area has grown as projected and forecast by Property Bond, more so than their conservative growth estimates. The currency too is strengthening, a visible sign of Brasil's increasing role in the world. Opportunities still exist, Brasil is yet to be discovered by the mass market, but as we know when that happens in around ten years time, you will have lost most of the possible gains.

Property Bond personally guided me through all the phases of the transaction with personal contact for which I am very appreciative. They did not abandon me after making the sale, quite the opposite, and I still have regular contact with them today. Having people onsite in Brasil and Europe allows them to give you this comprehensive service. There are some complexities in the purchase and they recommended a Brasilian lawyer to increase my security in the transaction in respect of legal matters.

I own properties in other areas of the world, but unquestionably Brasil has been my best experience, when I quite expected the opposite. Even if you just discover a new place to holiday and then you will be enriched by Brasil's unique way of live and distinctive food and culture. The quality of the food alone is a reason to visit Brasil. In any area there is much to discover and many towns and cities close by. The language barrier is still present in Brasil however, another important reason you need the confidence of an experience market player with local knowledge and fluent Portuguese. Don't let that discourage you, it means that you can seek opportunities that others cannot without the right assistance. Every time I visit there are more English speakers, particularly for the younger generation learning English at school, but you will know the day when few opportunities exist, when everyone speaks English and the market has been flooded by foreign investment.

Don't delay, invest in Brasil. It will be one of the most enriching things you will do, and an outstanding investment that will make you a lot of money!

We are absolutely delighted with the house purchase in Guarajuba (25 km north of Salvador) which Daniel negotiated and carried out for us 3 years ago.
